- Graduated and obtained the degree of Bachelor in Medicine & Bachelor in Surgery [MBBS] at S.C.B. Medical College, Cuttack. Next, completed postgraduation [M.D.] in Internal Medicine in 1985, and joined the department of gastroenterology at the Christian Medical College at Vellore in 1986 as Senior Registrar. In 1988, awarded D.M. in Gastroenterology by the Madras University.
Joined the S.C.B. Medical College in 1988, where I continue to serve till date as Head of the Department of Gastroenterology. In 1995, organized the first major Hepatitis Symposium in India. After realizing how in India, hepatitis B was being neglected, founded the Kalinga Gastroenterology Foundation to galvanize awareness programs on hepatitis B and hepatitis B vaccination drives. In 2001, started the World Hepatitis B Eradication Day on 28th July, the birthday of Nobel laureate, Prof. Blumberg. This program has now been adopted by the Indian Society of Gastroenterology and Indian Association for study of the Liver. In 2004, launched the free access journal HEPATITIS B ANNUAL dedicated to dissemination of knowledge about Hepatitis B amongst the medical fraternity of the developing world. Member of the 2007 World Digestive Health Day Committee of the World Gastroenterology Organisation [WGO] and the Public Panel of World Hepatitis Alliance.
Major research interests: GERD, IBS, Hepatitis B and NAFLD.
