Yes, I do plan to go to AMWA this year, for the first time. Are you going? After 5 years of doing this, it's time.

It was a FT job offer. But I see many opportunities for freelance regulatory work. I'm not qualified for them, and don't know how to get the necessary training or experience.

Here's an excerpt of advice given to me by a fellow regulatory writer with many years of experience in the industry:
*cro=contract research organization.
"...Connections or education don't matter too much in the regulatory world--only experience matters. So get some experience by working in one of the less desirable jobs such as working for a CRO*.
If you can't get a job as a writer, take some other job in the CRO and transfer over when they'll let you. Always let them know you want to be a reg writer (once you're in)."

Hope this helps...

Hi Jennifer,

I see al lot of opportunities for regulatory writing. I have been writing for medical communications companies mostly. I started by working for a med comm company in NY. After moving to San Francisco, I joined AMWA and sent my resume everywhere. I was then contacted for freelance jobs randomly - sometimes months or yeas later.

How to you break into regulatory writing? Are there courses or a certificate program you recommend? Is it impossible to get a job in regulatory writing without such a background? I did get such a job offer, more than a year ago, but I couldn't take it - my son was born days before the start date.
