I recently have been scouring the Web in search of information in databases that might give me a clue as to which American medical device companies intend to apply for a CE mark so they can market their product in the European Union. I'm hoping to get back into the literature review writing that I was doing a couple years ago, and CE mark candidates for medical devices are among the best client prospects. Some will combine their clinical trial evidence with a literature review in an attempt to earn the mark.
I know that lots of companies don't want their competition to know they're targeting Europe and therefore do not advertise the fact that they are trying for a CE mark. My guess is that a med writer would have to find a database maintained by a Notified Body or the health authority of a particular European country, and it would have to be online, and contain preliminary information about the intent of U.S. manufacturers with Class II and III devices to sell. Perhaps I am unrealistic in thinking such a database exists.
Has anyone else ever tried to do sleuthing like this?
